"We're reflying MSL-1 because during the first flight, we only got 4 days of science. We haven't been able to complete the job. What we have been able to do is show that these experiments will work, and that's very, very important. We now now the experiments are on the right track - they're going to work - they were working - we just didn't have time to complete the job. So now it's time to go back and do exactly that - complete the job. Let's finish all the research we need to get a definitive answer on these experiments and the processes they represent. "

Text:

"The research we're going to conduct on this First Microgravity Science Laboratory Mission that we started on STS-83 in April and we're now going to complete on STS-94 this July is related right back to major sectors of our economy and our health and welfare in the United States. We're going to be doing state-of-the-art, groundbreaking research in combustion science, which relates right back to the energy sector of our economy, and materials science, which relates right back to the manufacturing sector, and biotechnology, which relates to health and welfare - improving our health and welfare in the United States, and in an area called 'fluid physics,' which is the general study of how fluids, like water, behave under different forces, forces of nature that occur in all different processes and situations on Earth."
